General Dentistry
General Dental Checkup/Consultation
Regular dental check-ups every 6 months once are advised by our dentist. This is not only for the
upkeep of teeth, but also to preserve the health of the gums and surrounding oral tissues. Most
dental diseases and decay can be detected and treated in the early stages. Any existing dental work
will also need maintenance to ensure further longevity.
Scaling and Polishing
Buildup of calculus(tartar) in our mouth occurs a period of time, due to incorrect brushing technique
or in certain scenarios, poor oral hygiene. Scaling helps remove any calculus that has attached to our
teeth to prevent gum disease. Our dentist advises his patients do get regular scaling done every 6
months to help preserve gum health.
Radiographic Examinations
The use of dental X-rays is crucial in the accurate diagnosis and treatment of many dental conditions.
With this, our dentist will be able to detect abnormalities that are not visible to the naked eye. These
problems are from a simple dental decay to more serious problems such as infections, bone loss, cysts
and oral cancer. With newly advanced technology, X-rays can now be digitally viewed, making fine
details and structures clearly visible. This serves to facilitate further treatment required for our
patients.
Emergency Dental Care
At Shine Dental Clinic, we know how urgent it is to attend to our patients who need emergency
treatment and professional assistance when they are in pain. Which is why we provide emergency
dental care to our patients at any given time during our operation hours. Dental emergencies are
scary experiences that can range from a toothache to physical accidents that result in broken teeth.
Our friendly and skilled dentist can help you in soothing your pain and distress.
Tooth Restoration
Fillings
When cavities occur, they must be cleaned and the tooth filled to prevent further progress of decay,
that can lead to tooth loss as well. We use the latest composite(white) fillings, that are coloured to
match the shade of your tooth. Fillings can be completed in a single visit by our skilled dentist.
Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is done when the nerve inside the tooth is affected. Many causes can lead to
nerve infection e.g decay, wear, traumatic injury, cracks. Common symptoms may include severe
throbbing pain, tooth discolouration, and swelling or soreness of the gums in relation to the affected
tooth. With the use of strong local anaesthesia to completely numb the area before the procedure,
we will ensure that you do not feel any pain during treatment. It typically takes 2-3 visits to complete
a root canal. The first will focus on removing the infected nerve and resolving any pain; the second
will involve further disinfecting the canal and restoring the tooth to normal.
Crowns
Crowns are custom-made caps that are used to restore and strengthen a weak or badly broken down
tooth. They can be used to strengthen cracked teeth, or for aesthetic reasons to improve your smile
by changing the shape and colour of your teeth. Crowns can be made out of a variety of different
materials, but most commonly used nowadays is porcelain. Porcelain is used due to its high strength
and natural aesthetic colour and appearance. We work together with a group of skillful dental
technicians that aim to provide the best possible custom-made crowns, just for you.
Dental Surgery
Extractions
There are many reasons why a dental extraction is needed, but commonly, it is due to decayed or
severely infected teeth. For orthodontic treatment, sometimes extractions need to be done,
depending on the malalignment of your teeth. We at Shine Dental Clinic are trained at handling
painless extractions for our patients. For visible teeth, a simple extraction can be done under local
anaesthesia.
Wisdom Tooth Removal(Minor Oral Surgery)
Wisdom teeth, also knows as third molars, typically are the final set of molar teeth to erupt. Wisdom
teeth commonly cause issues for many people, where in most situations it becomes impacted, or in
other words, blocked. This is called an impacted tooth, where it has not grown completely into the
gums, or partly only. This is unhealthy and the involved tooth should be removed to prevent
abscesses and infections from forming.
Tooth Replacement
Dentures
Dentures, or more commonly knows as false teeth, are custom made for you to replace your missing
teeth. Here at Shine Dental Clinic, we provide a wide range of dentures, such as conventional acrylic,
chrome cobalt, and flexible(Valplast) dentures. Dentures can be used to replace all your missing teeth
or only replace missing teeth between your natural ones.
Bridges
A bridge is very useful when replacing a tooth or couple of teeth that are missing or no longer viable.
It replaces missing teeth by using the surrounding teeth as support. The bridge fits over your natural
teeth on either side of the gap. Many different kinds of materials can be used to construct your
bridge. Most common material used is porcelain, which can withstand most natural tooth functions
and can naturally mimic tooth enamel(the outermost layer of your tooth).
Implants
Implants are usually the ideal option for replacing one or more missing teeth. Implants function as a
root replacement, and a custom made crown is done to replace a missing tooth. The same can be
done to hold bridges and dentures in place. Using modern techniques, implants can be made to look
and feel as close as possible to our natural teeth.
Cosmetics
Veneers
Veneers are thin, tooth-coloured porcelain laminates that are custom made and shaped to bond to
the front of your teeth. They are used to recreate the natural look of your teeth. Veneers are
primarily an aesthetic option for treating chipped, uneven or discoloured teeth. They can also be used
to eliminate gaps between the teeth and improve your smile. Veneers are custom-made for your
teeth therefore it is almost impossible to tell the difference between a veneer and a natural tooth.
With newer techniques, many different kinds of veneers are available, such as composite, pre-
fabricated and indirect veneers.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening or bleaching is an affordable way of improving your smile, helping remove stains and
discoloration. Teeth whitening is one of the most popular dental cosmetic procedures because of its
ease of use and obvious improvements. The most common reason for teeth to become yellow is
because of tobacco smoking, drinking coffee, tea or wine and poor oral hygiene. Here at Naenae
Dental Clinic we offer several different whitening options available, such as the in office and home
whitening kits.
Home Whitening kits are pre-loaded bleaching trays which are worn daily. These are very easy to use
and help whiten teeth significantly. They are lower in concentration, hence they usually require
repeat treatments to have effect. These can be purchased from the front office or may be custom
made to specifically fit your mouth.
Professional or in-office Whitening involves the application of the whitening gel to the teeth. The
hydrogen peroxide content will help oxidise the stains in your teeth, to give a more white and shine
appearance. Results are seen almost instantly after treatment. When combined with a home
whitening kit, as above, will yield much better results.
Orthodontics
Traditional Braces
Dental braces are used to align and straighten teeth and help position them in their ideal position.
Braces can be done for functional or aesthetic purposes. It also helps to greatly improve dental health
as they unravel crowded areas which are difficult to clean! Braces are also used to correct underbites,
overbites, open bites, deep bites, cross bites, and other flaws of the teeth and jaw.
Ortho Align (invisible braces)
Ortho Align is a clear and comfortable alternative solution to straighten teeth without wires. It is an
essentially invisible and hygienic alternative to braces that can help you achieve a healthy confident
smile. These invisible aligners can be used to straighten crooked or crowded teeth and even close
gaps! Custom designed for you, treatment with Ortho Align involves wearing clear plastic trays, where
each aligner is worn for 2 weeks, before moving on to the next set of aligners. With each week, your
teeth will make subtle movements until the final position is achieved.
Oral Appliances
Mouth Guard
A mouth guard reduces the impact to the teeth, should the wearer sustain an injury to the face and
jaws. It is commonly used by individuals involved with contact sports eg. Hockey, boxing, etc. As such,
the severity of dental injuries and the risk of tooth loss are potentially reduced. A mouth guard could
also be prescribed by a dentist when a person has habitual tooth grinding (bruxism).
Sleep Apnea Apliance (Somnodent)
Sleep apnea appliance is a custim fitted dental device that is worn by you during sleep to prevent a
condition known as obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). It fits over your upper and lower teeth and is
designed to keep your airway open by holding your lower jaw and tongue base forward, helping you
and your partner achieve better sleep.
